We were attracted to the "Dingo Dreaming" tour because it allowed us to fly in to Uluru (Ayers Rock), arriving mid-day, get an experience of the "Outback", and be dropped off at the airport the next day to catch the mid-day flight back to Sydney. And what an experience it was! We were able to participate in all of the standard tourist activities: hiking part-way around Uluru in the summer heat, a brief introduction to the local culture from an Aboriginal resident, sunset (with champagne) and sunrise, and a great hike to the Valley of the Winds in the Kata Tjutas (Olgas). All in 24 hours. Our guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable, capable, and charming (in a camp councilor kind of way). But be aware, this is not "glamping", more akin to backpacking without carrying packs. Restroom/showers were about 1/4 mile away, food was palatable but crude, linens were a sleeping bag of uncertain history, and towels for washing were pretty much non-existent (you do get a wash cloth). Serviceable but primitive. Keep your comfort level expectations VERY low and it is an amazing experience!
Amazing 5 Day 4WD Uluru Red Centre Kangaroo Dreaming Tour. Our guide Joe was outstanding! Very knowledgeable about the history, culture and nature of the area. He is a great cook and photographer too! He adapted the tour to the hot weather. We did hike early in the morning and were taking to beautiful natural pools to swim, cool down and relax. The campsites were nice and remote. We spent 2 nights in a Swag without tent directly gazing at the stars. There were tents the second last night but due to the heat my wife and I decided to sleep outside. It was amazing! The hikes are not long. But the tour is not just a piece of cake. The heat and lack of sleep is demanding but part of a outback experience. Highly recommended!
The tour guides really need to take a safe food handling course. It is not acceptable to store raw bloody meats with fresh produce. We were told to be respectful of the culture and land, and not disturb anything or walk where it was prohibited to do so. However, our tour guide did both while cracking jokes. Our tour guide also left our group vehicle unlocked after reassuring everyone in our group it was ok to leave our valuables inside the vehicle as it would be locked. After we were robbed, our tour guide admitted to leaving the vehicle unlocked and didn't even apologize. We received something from Wayoutback when we returned home but it didn't even cover 50% of what we lost. This was their employee and he admitted fault. The sites are incredible, but this company and it's employees sadly are not. **Edited to add the following... The tour guide in question told us it was pointless to file a police report, and made no effort to help us do so if this was required. As this happened at the start of the tour it put a serious damper on our vacation. A vacation I needed to save money for, for 2 plus years to be able to go on. You could have given us a refund of our trip but chose not to do so. That to me speaks volumes. You were more concerned with making a profit over making things right. I have reached out to discuss it further. As I expected I have yet to hear anything back. This seems to be the norm with your company. Anybody reading this, please be forewarned if it can happen once it can happen twice... This was their employee who was "highly trained and checked up upon" in their words.**
I completed one day Litchfield Tour last weekend and I must say it exceeded all expectations. Joey was an absolute champ and was very well informed about the ecology and history in the area. He was very respectful about the traditional owners of the land and was passionate about maintaining culture and the land. He was also very funny and remained positive when we had a few difficult passengers on the tour. Would recommend to any and all ages.
5 days of absolute fun. Our guide Lee was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and also everything within it. He worked very hard to make sure that we had a great time and was very patient and tactful with the group regardless of how many times we asked the sane questions! We were taking to beautiful waterfalls or natural pools every day to swim and they were stunning. I've seen reviews that say there was dust everywhere, of course there was dust and cobwebs, it's the outback. If you're looking for the Hilton, (other hotels are available) don't go. If you're looking for something different and would like to see a fairly wild place that is truly beautiful GO! I loved it and will return next year if I can.
